I've developed a graduated chord method effective for beginners of any
age: The order of chord types focused on is based upon both nature and
real-life frequencies of usage. The physical challenges are introduced
in a natural and gradual manner. My system also fills in two
rudimentary gaps that appear in an overwhelming majority of guitar books.
When I teach kids, I try to naturally teach principles that apply to all
endeavors in life, such as the value of a specific, long-term goal pursued by
focusing on a series of small steps with discipline and persistence,
motivated by both joy in the process and joy of results. I also
encourage both self-determination and discipline, explaining and applying
both independent problem-solving and tradition, and exemplifying the
complementary values
of individual creativity in the present along with the expert guidance we
inherit from the past.
